Synoptic pre-production: risk assessment

Updated: Jun 10, 2019

As a part of pre-production a risk assessment is required to be filled out. A risk assessment is a form that highlights possible issues that may occur and defines the steps necessary to minimise and eliminate them. In this risk assessment it states the hazard itself and the people and equipment it may effect. it then gives a rating of the risk and what is being done to prevent such occurrence. For instance one of the risks stated would be falling over due to woodland terrain. For this tho occur it would affect anyone within the group and could also affect the camera. It is then up to the person conducting the risk assessment to judge how this should be rated. The risk assessment details that the risk is low. Another part of the assessment is to outline any safe guards which can be put in place to prevent any of these to occur. for falling over there is none that can be in place as it is more something you would have to be cautious about.

fortunately when filming none of these risks came to fruition but having assessments like these help detail any issues and how to resolve them. This is important because measures need to be enforced to ensure safety for everyone involved.
